Barring Mirhossein Mousavi, Iran's remaining opposition leaders met in Tehran on Sunday. But although the gathering was authorised, it ended in a violent attack by the police. One of our Observers was there.
Reformists Medhi Karoubi, Hadi Gharafi and the daughter of former president Ali Rafsandjani met on Sunday to honour Ayatollah Beheshti, the former head of the Iranian Republic's judicial arm, who was killed in an attack in 1981, just after president Abolhassan Banisadr was ousted.
Shahrzad, 26, is a photographer from Tehran. She sent us these videos.
Although
the meeting was allowed, the police arrived and asked us to leave. To avoid any
trouble, one of Beheshti's sons spoke through a megaphone telling people that
we had to go. But as we were getting ready to leave, the police attacked,
throwing teargas and hitting anyone and everyone. People fought back, and it
ended in arrests. There was a rumour going round on Facebook and Twitter that
Mousavi was arrested too, but it turned out not to be true.
Today [Monday 29] I'm going to a join in forming a human chain between Vali Asr Cr square and Tajrish square. We did it before the election and we'll do it again. We're not scared. I'm not a Mousavi supporter, I'm simply fighting for my vote."
